Take a nostalgic train ride with us and experience what it was like
to travel to an isolated Tasmanian West Coast community
in the early 20th century
Our 1924 steam locomotive, Wee Georgie Wood, is in operation on scheduled weekends over the summer season. A twenty minute train ride will take you through the historic town site of Tullah which is located in the mountainous temperate rain forests of Tasmania's West Coast. The scenery is breathtaking and the history fascinating.
When not in operation visitors are welcome to take a self guided tour and explore the railway site.
Wee Georgie Wood hails from a time when this small mining settlement could only be accessed by a 2ft gauge railway, this was their lifeline to the outside world. After the Murchison highway was build in the 1960's there was no need for the railway anymore. The heritage steam railway seen today has been operated and maintained by volunteers since its opening in 1987. Through their dedication and hard work, visitors to the area can take a nostalgic train ride and experience what it was like to travel to this isolated West Coast community in the early 20th century.
There are toilet facilities at the station and a sheltered picnic area.
